Waverley Tennis is embracing the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Match Play concept and offers an innovative and exciting junior modified 'starter' competition on an inter-club basis and which is now open to all Waverley Tennis Affiliates.
Waverley Tennis is in partnership with Tennis Victoria in offering and promoting Hot Shots Match Play and encourages all Club Junior Convenors and Club Coaches to seriously consider entering teams into the competition.
Modified balls, smaller courts and time friendly formats are just some of the key features of this innovative competition aimed at getting young tennis players interested in the game of tennis and, in particular, competition tennis.
Parents join in the fun and assist the players on-court in their matches while both players and parents learn the fundamentals of the game.
Competitions are held in each school term (1 to 4) and consist of 5 weeks of home & away matches followed by a finals day for BBQ and presentations.
The Waverley Tennis Hot Shots Match Play is currently conducted on Sunday mornings and offers two competitions:
10/u Orange ball competition (ages 7-10) from 9:15 a.m.- 10:15 a.m.
11/u Green ball competition (ages 9-11) from 10:30 a.m.- 12:00 noon.
Matches are time based, orange ball up to 20 minutes of play per set and green ball up to 30 minutes of play per set and/or first to 4 games, whichever comes first.
Each player plays one singles and two doubles matches in the allotted time of 60 minutes (orange ball) and 90 minutes (green ball).
